Roby:  High Fives for America's Exporters

Founder and CEO Roosevelt Roby sends congratulations to the thousands of international traders the WBE.Net has trained during its more than 20 years of existence.  Says Mr. Roby, "Even in the face of today's concerns about the economy - housing, oil and tight credit - one very big area of success is keeping the US strong:  exporting.  We're proud that WBE.Net members helped make it happen."  He adds, "The numbers are in for 2007 - and they're good.  We had another record-breaking year, with Americans carrying out 1.6 Trillion Dollars in exports. That's a jump of more than 12 percent over the year before."   To illustrate the power of US exports, Mr. Roby points out that US trade accounted for one fourth of America's economic growth in 2007 - and if you laid all those trade dollars end to end, they would stretch past the Sun!

As a WBE.Net member, you may stand to gain from the US's pending Free Trade Agreement with Colombia, which awaits final action by Congress.  Keep an eye on this measure, which is being actively promoted by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  Once finalized, it will clear exporters' paths to send products to the South American nation.  The agreement will eliminate tariffs on more than 80 percent of US exports of agricultural, industrial and consumer goods immediately and 100 percent over time.  It will provide US companies and farmers that export to Colombia with duty-free access to this large and growing market.  It gets rid of duties on wheat, barley, soybeans, flour, high quality beef, bacon, almost all fruit and vegetable products, peanuts, cotton and the vast majority of processed products.  The US Administration is urging Congress to put it into effect this year - preferably, right after the Easter recess.

WBE.Net Export Alert:  Clean Coal Rocks...

American exporters hope to make serious profits as more and more countries adopt cleaner-emissions policies.  These nations all need something America leads the world in:  clean coal technology.  This technology allows coal to be burned with lower carbon pollution.  The best and most immediate export opportunity is to sell clean coal equipment and to license the technology to China and India, where coal-fired electricity production is rapidly expanding.  Also offering strong US clean coal markets are Africa, Brazil, Mexico and South Korea, which will more than double their electricity consumption over the next two decades.  These countries are expected to import tens of billions of dollars worth of clean coal resources for years to come.  America's main competitors in exporting this valuable technology are Germany, Japan and Thailand.
