Roby Champions International Trade for Youth

The "No Child Left Behind" national education program seems to be leaving many young people behind - in America's inner cities - a fact noted by critics across the political spectrum.  Roosevelt Roby, Founder-CEO of the World Business Exchange Network, is working to help correct this problem.  Mr. Roby hopes to re-introduce the WBE.Net's Import-Export training course to the Los Angeles Unified School District and his efforts are gaining attention.  After his recent speech at the city's New Technical High School, Mr. Roby met with School Superintendant David Brewer.  Mr. Brewer expressed interest in bringing back the WBE.Net's Global Internet Trade Course for Students, which Mr. Roby introduced to the District during the Clinton Administration.   Wherever it's placed, the Course achieves great results among students.  It has earned recognition from the President of the United States.  The Course has a proven ability to re-kindle excitement for education among young people, as well as showing them the way to a world of friendship, understanding and positive business activity.  Countries that actively trade, to each side's mutual benefit, are less likely to go to war than those that don't - so this effort is part education, part peace.  We'll keep you informed about this mission's progress.

The Exporter's Can-Do Helper

A recent WBE.Net Newsletter touched briefly on one of your best friends in the export business - the Freight Forwarder.   Here's more:   International Freight Forwarders are your special agents in sending cargo overseas.   They know all about the import rules and regulations of foreign countries, export policies of the US government, ways to ship your goods, and the documents you'll need to do foreign trade.   Your Forwarders will help you with price quotes based on freight costs, port fees, insurance, and handling.  Plus, they'll make sure your shipment is packaged properly and, if you like, reserve space for your cargo on a ship, plane, truck or train! The cost for their services is a legitimate export cost that should be included in the price you charge to your customer.

Your State As Export Friend

Attention, WBE.Net members:  your state can be a real friend to exporters.  Many US states have economic development agencies, departments of commerce and other agencies that provide valuable assistance to exporters.  State export programs are growing rapidly.  City and County agencies also have their own export assistance programs. The aid offered by these groups often includes export education plus the organizing of trade missions and trade shows.  If you'd like to tap these resources, WBE.Net advises that you contact the National Association of State Development Agencies, 750 First Street, N.E., Suite 710, Washington, DC 20002.  You can also call the Association at (202) 898-1302.  To find out if your city or county has nearby export programs, please contact your local economic development agency.
