Strong And Getting Stronger

US exports are at an all-time high!  To keep this momentum going, WBE.Net's partners in Washington have decided to work aggressively to help exporters grow their  international sales and encourage more people to sell globally.  This exciting new program is a historic team-up between the US Commerce Department and the US Chamber of Commerce.  The aim is to help you, the WBE.Net exporter, fulfill your goals of taking part in America's ever-expanding shipment of goods and services to the world.  Here's what's being unfolded:  a pooling of resources between the two agencies that will introduce export-ready companies - like you - to overseas customers, and give you a powerful new set of  benefits such as counseling and overseas market assistance through joint efforts.  These moves by the Commerce Dept's International Trade Administration and the US Chamber of Commerce will feature new cooperation to help you obtain market information, technical assistance, information about  export conferences and seminars, and export education programs designed for American businesses.   What makes this program highly important is that each of these two bodies is a heavy hitter, and when they join up, you have two major organizations behind you all at once.  The US Commercial Service, part of the Commerce Dept's International Trade Administration, promotes the export of American-made goods and services and goes to bat for American companies through its worldwide network of 250 offices. Meantime, the US Chamber of Commerce pushes for open trade and investment and works to reduce barriers to the successful global expansion of US firms.  For more information, go to WBE.Net's main page, see our many helpful links, or visit www.export.gov.

Hot Export Item:  Flat Screens

The international market for exporting electronic display screens is very active.  It's growing at more than 12 percent a year, and currently totals more than $11 billion annually.  The most successful part of this business is flat panel displays.  They are rapidly replacing the big-sized computer monitors and TV screens.  Thin film transistor liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCDs) are driving this market, especially in high-definition TVs.  The good news is that the field is heavy with competitors.  There are more than 40 of them, which gives you negotiating room as you seek overseas deals.  The top ones are:  Sharp, Hitachi, Sanyo, Samsung, LG Electronics, NEC, AU Optronics, Chi Mei Optoelectronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Eastman Kodak, Planar, Three-Five Systems, and Texas Instruments.

WBE.Net Reminder - The World Wants Your Business

Small and medium-sized businesses account for 96 percent of US exporters, but only about a third of our total exports.  There is vast untapped export potential among small and medium-sized firms, and WBE.Net teams up with our partner, the Commerce Department, to grow the number of exporters and  markets where you can trade products and services.  Even if you are your only employee, you are a business, and as you can see, there is much help available to propel you toward success.

At Long Last - Peace In The Middle East?

The US has brought together the most hopeful Middle East talks in at least seven years.  The goal is to create a Palestinian state. The two main sides in this summit are led by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. President George W. Bush gathered the one-day meeting in Maryland, attended by more than 40 states, including (in addition to Israel) Syria, Saudi Arabia,  and other major Arab nations.  Why now...after Presidents Clinton, Bush the First, and Carter couldn't bring peace to the Middle East?  The current main thought is that Iran is the reason.  A fact not known by many Americans is that Iran is not Arab - although it is Islamic.  The Arab world is quite worried about the rise of  Iran and its nuclear program.  Taking the Palestinian issue off the table by creating a democratic Palestinian nation will remove a key part of  Iran's troublemaking power - the ability to play the Arabs and Jews against each other.  If Israel and Palestine can co-exist in peace, Iran's ability to promote terrorism will be greatly reduced.   This situation is arguably the most urgent on Earth, has driven the planet's politics and warfare for generations, and has figured in most forcasts of a predicted end of the world.

FAQ

Here's a frequently asked question among WBE.Net members getting ready to make international trades:  Do I need a license?  An agent or middleman engaging in exporting may need a business license to conduct a home-based business. Check with your local City or County Clerk's office to see if you need one. Usually, the supplier, manufacturer or shipper has a license to export the product.  For more answers to frequently asked questions, click to WBE.Net's site, at this web address:  https://wbe.net/faqs/.
