THE CALIFORNIA STATE LOTTERY TO FUND PROGRESSIVE
WBE.NET GLOBAL INTERNET TRADE COURSE FOR STUDENTS
    IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS

LOS ANGELES, CA - In an effort to revolutionize classrooms with innovative educational resources, the California State Lottery has reached a partnership agreement with the REIS Foundation of Los Angeles to fund a one-year program based on the highly successful WBE.Net Global Internet Trade Course for Student in the Grant Joint Union High School District in Sacramento. The announcement was made jointly today by Roosevelt Roby, Founder and CEO, the World Business Exchange Network and the non-profit REIS Foundation, and by Joan Wilson, Executive Director of the California State Lottery.

Beginning in the Fall of 2001, 14 schools within the Grant Joint Union High School District will implement the import/export trade program, which brings technology and entrepreneurial training to the classroom. The course was designed from data and educational resources provided bye the World Business Exchange Network (www.wbe.net), and international trade association on the Internet that helps members establish and run a home-based business in the booming international trade industry.

Similarly, the course teaches students how to establish their own successful home-base business, how to evaluate and follow through on import/export opportunities, and about the importance of technology and world trade on both the United States and the global economy. Any proceeds generated by the students during the course will go directly to the school's scholarship program.

"We are very happy to begin our partnership with the REIS Foundation and the Grant Joint Union School District," stated Ms. Wilson. "With our focus on education, this is just another first for us as we help bring this unique curriculum to Northern California students. By teaching the essentials of economics and international trade over the Internet, we hope to inspire students to learn and motivate them with skills that can be used in the real world following graduation."

"We are honored that the California State Lottery has joined our initiative to help foster tomorrow's entrepreneurs and bridge the digital divide," commented Mr. Roby. "The WBE.Net Global Internet Trade Course is a wonderful way to close the opportunity gap in America and provide new skills and resources to low-income and disadvantaged students throughout the country. Together with caring partners like the California State Lottery, we can make these students a success, not a statistic."

Larry Buchanan, District Superintendent, added, "We are very, very excited about the WBE.Net Global Internet Trade Course and are grateful to the REIS Foundation and the World Business Exchange Network for their educational initiative, and to the Lottery Commission for providing the funding to bring this program to the district. It is and excellent fit for us, a tremendous opportunity for our students, and we're looking forward to a long-term partnership and a lot of great things happening for our kids."

The WBE.NET Global Internet Trade Course for Students, was first developed by Mr. Roby and Mr. Alfonzo C. Webb, II, and educator. It was originally donated to Alain Leroy Locke High School in South Central Los Angeles on February 19, 1998. The course, which was approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District, was credited for turning former gang members and disadvantaged kids into model students. It was responsible for elevating the Watts community school from among the 100 Worst Schools in Los Angeles to one of the most progressive schools in the nation. As a result of the course, teachers noted a dramatic upgrade in student attendance, grades, self-esteem and behavior in class.

The course motivates students by integrating their basic school studies such as history, economics and math, while teaching them about the vast opportunities available in international trade. It also shows them how to cooperatively work in a group, how to improve their oral and written communication, and how to run a successful business enterprise.

Through the REIS Foundation, The World Business Exchange Network has implemented the program in a total of seven schools throughout the Los Angeles area and is avidly working with private individuals, corporations, political leaders and public institutions to expand the WBE.Net Global Internet Trade Course to schools nationwide.
