AMERICAN BUSINESS AND POLITICAL LEADERS MEET TO PROMOTE COMMERCE OPPORTUNITIES WITH AFRICA

Forum Presented by the World Business Exchange Network, the United States Department of Commerce, The African Development Bank, The African USA Chamber of Commerce and the Center for International Trade Development

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A celebration of the growing business and trade opportunities with Africa brought hundreds of top American business leaders and local politicians together for the African Development Bank Conference in Los Angeles. The event was presented by the World Business Exchange Network, the United States Department of Commerce, the African Development Bank, the African USA Chamber of Commerce and the Center for International Trade Development. The rousing forum was also held in cooperation with the US Export Import Bank, the US Trade Development Agency, the US Agency for International Development, the California Finance Office, the World Trade Center Association, AM-Global Trading, US Small Business Administration and the Global Technology Network/Agency for International Development.

On the agenda were discussions about the state of market democracy and infrastructure development, with emphasis on the need for reform; an exploration of the growing businesses opportunities in Africa as well as the cultural and economic issues affecting US companies doing business in Africa; business opportunities arising from major projects funded by the African Development Bank; government and private sector resources and assistance programs; and promoting educational technology in African schools.

US Congresswoman Maxine Waters was also on hand to highlight legislative developments designed to support companies exploring opportunities in Africa. She pledged her commitment to helping promote trade opportunities between African and American businesses, and expressed an immediate need to better educate today's African American youths on business and their heritage.

While the primary focus was on today's opportunities, Roosevelt Roby, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the World Business Exchange Network - a leading international trade association on the Internet that helps members establish their own home-based business as an import/export agent -- brought the forum to its feet with an inspirational discussion about nurturing tomorrow's business entrepreneurs. "Our kids are going to inherit the world and need to be educated about how trading among countries benefits everyone," stated Mr. Roby. "Governments invest billions of dollars to promote international trade. I see this as an enormous opportunity to train our kids in a booming industry, break down the digital divide and bring technology, entrepreneurial training and educational resources to underprivileged kids so they receive an equal opportunity for success following graduation."

To facilitate such business and entrepreneurial training, Mr. Roby created the WBE.Net Global Internet Trade Course for Students from data and resources provided by the World Business Exchange Network. Through his non-profit REIS Foundation, Mr. Roby has implemented the innovative program at high schools within the United States with tremendous praise from political, civic and educational leaders nationwide. At the conference, he pledged to work with both the African government and corporate sponsors to expand the international trade course to learning institutions in Africa.
